Midea Cube 20 vs Pro Breeze Mini: which dehumidifier fits a rental?

A small water tank and a small extraction rate are different things. Before buying a compact dehumidifier for condensation, separate how much water it can remove each day from how much its bucket can hold—and investigate why moisture keeps arriving.

We reviewed manufacturer documentation and Canadian product listings. We have not hands-on tested these products for this guide. Retailer links are ordinary links; we earn no commission from them.

Portability & ecosystem fit

Pack, place & remove
The Cube’s nested storage does not remove its operating-space and bucket-handling burden. Check weight, clearance and a safe permitted drain route before purchase.
Ecosystem fit
Choose by moisture-removal needs first. This comparison does not establish a cross-platform automation route; verify any desired app feature for the exact Canadian model.
Offline & shared use
Check the exact local humidity controls, full-tank behaviour and restart instructions. A remote-control feature should not replace a safe bucket or drain arrangement.
Complete ownership cost
Include electricity, cleaning effort and approved drain accessories. The small Pro Breeze’s warm-condition extraction figure is not equivalent to a room-sized compressor model.
At the next address
Follow draining, transport and restart instructions, then reassess moisture sources and room conditions. Do not carry an unresolved leak forward as an appliance-sizing problem.

Documentation-based fit assessment, not a hands-on test or compatibility certification.

Record the dampness before choosing a machine

Note where condensation appears, when it happens and the room temperature. A separate humidity reading can help describe the pattern, but it does not diagnose a hidden leak. Photograph and report persistent damp areas or water damage through the appropriate building-maintenance route. Do not let a shopping decision delay reporting an active problem.

Health Canada’s moisture guidance emphasizes controlling sources and maintaining suitable humidity, using a dehumidifier as necessary. Ventilation, repairs and moisture-producing activities all matter. This guide compares appliance specifications; it does not assess mould, health symptoms or a landlord’s legal obligations.

Daily removal is not bucket size

The figures are not a same-room head-to-head test: the manufacturers use different stated bases. Even so, they describe very different classes of equipment. A 500 mL bucket does not mean 500 mL is removed each day, and “20 pint” does not describe the Cube’s bucket.

When the Cube is worth investigating

Midea Canada lists the Cube 20 as a 115 V model, with a washable filter, electronic controls and a nested storage design. Its Canadian page advertises coverage up to 1,500 square feet. Treat that area as a screening claim, not a guarantee for a basement, high moisture load or every connected room.

The manual permits operation between 5°C and 35°C; that is an operating range, not a promise of equal extraction throughout it. Follow its siting, electrical and clearance instructions. Do not expect the lowest temperature in the range to deliver the label’s daily capacity. If the room is persistently cold, ask the manufacturer about the exact conditions before ordering.

When the miniature unit is the wrong saving

The Canadian Pro Breeze manual specifies approximately 250 mL per day at 30°C and 80% relative humidity. That is a very warm and humid reference condition compared with many occupied Canadian bedrooms. Do not assume the same collection at a cooler temperature or lower humidity.

Its compact footprint may be useful for a limited task where the required removal is genuinely modest. It should not be bought as a cheaper equivalent to the Cube for persistent room dampness. The retailer listing also mixes large coverage language with small extraction figures; give the exact manual’s capacity and conditions greater weight than a headline room area.

Decide who will empty it and where water goes

A large bucket reduces trips only if somebody can safely handle it. Twelve litres of water alone weighs about twelve kilograms; a partly filled bucket may be the more practical routine. Inspect the manufacturer’s permitted fill-level settings and emptying procedure rather than waiting until every available litre is used.

The Cube 20 has no built-in pump. Continuous draining requires a permitted, securely routed arrangement that follows the manual and drains correctly; a hose cannot simply climb into a higher sink. Avoid a trip hazard or an installation that could leak onto flooring. Do not modify plumbing, drill an exterior drain or position an appliance precariously to reach a drain.

Compare ownership cost and the exact packages

Include electricity, cleaning effort and any approved drain accessories in the total. Low electrical draw alone does not establish low cost per litre of water removed. Compare the appliance’s rated information and your tariff rather than inventing a savings figure. Neither product should be represented as a whole-home air purifier or a cure for mould.

What to check after installation

  • Use the exact Canadian model, supplied adapter or mains arrangement and safety instructions.
  • Log temperature, relative humidity and the appliance settings so changes have context.
  • Check that any hose and bucket arrangement cannot damage the rental.
  • Clean the permitted filter and tank parts as instructed, with the appliance unplugged.
  • Escalate unresolved dampness instead of continually buying additional small units.

We have not measured extraction or operating cost. Keep appliance records with your moving checklist and reassess capacity and placement at the next home.
