A closer look for renters
Midea Cube 20 review: condensation, tank handling and rental fit
The Midea Cube 20 is worth investigating for a real room-humidity job, but its large bucket creates a handling decision as well as convenience. Start with the moisture source, the room conditions and where the collected water will go.
We reviewed manufacturer documentation and Canadian product listings. We have not hands-on tested these products for this guide. Retailer links are ordinary links; we earn no commission from them.

The renter’s lens
Portability & ecosystem fit
- Pack, place & remove
- Nested storage is useful between homes, but operating space, bucket access and water weight still determine practical portability.
- Ecosystem fit
- Midea Canada lists Alexa and Google Assistant voice control. Verify current setup and exact actions; this does not establish Matter or Apple Home support.
- Offline & shared use
- Understand the unit’s electronic controls before considering remote features. Follow electrical instructions rather than improvising external switching.
- Complete ownership cost
- Electricity, bucket or drain inspection and filter cleaning remain necessary. A dehumidifier does not repair the moisture source.
- At the next address
- Empty and prepare for transport as instructed, follow restart requirements, and reassess temperature, room load and drain route at the next address.
Documentation-based fit assessment, not a hands-on test or compatibility certification.
A dehumidifier follows the moisture investigation
Window condensation can send a renter shopping quickly, but the pattern matters. Record the room temperature, where water appears and whether cooking, bathing or drying clothes changes it. A separate humidity reading can describe conditions; it does not diagnose water behind a wall. Report active leaks or damaged materials through the building’s appropriate maintenance route.
A portable appliance may help control humidity while sensible source control and ventilation are addressed. It cannot repair a leak, replace required ventilation or establish whether mould is present. This review is an equipment buying assessment, not medical advice or a decision about legal responsibility. Health Canada’s moisture guidance is the relevant starting point for the building problem.
This is a documentation-based review, not a hands-on test. We have not measured cleaning, sound, runtime or reliability. Recommendations reflect the exact model’s documented functions and the rental constraints explained below.
Twenty pints and twelve litres mean different things
The Canadian MAD20S1QWT is a compressor model with a published removal class of 20 US pints per day and a 12-litre bucket. Daily extraction is a rated capacity under specified conditions; tank capacity is how much can be held. Neither figure predicts the water you will collect in a particular bedroom. Avoid comparing appliances solely by the biggest liquid number in a headline.
| Renter requirement | What to check |
|---|---|
| Exact model | Canadian MAD20S1QWT, not another Cube capacity |
| Daily extraction | Read the rating label and its conditions |
| Bucket capacity | Decide a safe partial-fill emptying routine |
| Temperature | Manual lists an operating range; output still varies with conditions |
| Continuous drain | Gravity routing must follow the manual; no built-in pump |
The manual’s 5–35°C range describes permitted operation, not equal extraction at every temperature. Do not assume a cold room will deliver the label’s daily capacity.
The bucket can be convenient or the wrong burden
A large bucket offers time between emptying trips, but the water becomes weight. Twelve litres of water alone is about twelve kilograms before the container. Decide who will handle it and whether a smaller permitted fill level is more sensible. The feature is only useful if the routine remains manageable without lifting awkwardly or spilling across the room.
Rehearse a clear route to an appropriate disposal point. Check the handle, bucket position and emptying procedure in the instructions. Do not move the appliance with water sloshing around because it seems quicker. In a shared rental, agree who responds to a full bucket and how often the area will be checked; app alerts do not empty it.
Gravity draining is a route, not simply a hose
The Cube 20 package has a drain option, but this model does not contain a built-in water pump. Follow its continuous-drain instructions and verify the hose arrangement, slope, connection and receiving drain. A hose cannot be assumed to climb to a higher sink. Avoid blocking a doorway or creating a trip hazard just to reach a drain.
If the route requires changing plumbing, permanent fixings or positioning the appliance precariously, pause and obtain an appropriate permitted design. Do not improvise a platform to make the diagram work. Bucket mode may be the more practical reversible arrangement. A renter should be able to inspect the drain route and discover a leak promptly, rather than hide it behind furniture.
Smart controls are secondary to reliable local use
The product is sold as a smart dehumidifier, but begin with the electronic controls on the exact unit. Establish that the intended humidity settings and ordinary operation are understandable locally. Check current app, account and supported wireless requirements if remote functions matter; landlord Wi-Fi and sign-in portals can complicate connected setup.
Midea’s Canadian page lists Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control. That does not establish Matter or Apple Home support, or that every setting is available by voice. Verify the exact action and current Canadian account setup before buying for an automation. Do not use an external smart plug as a shortcut around the appliance’s own controls or electrical instructions. A separate leak sensor can serve a different monitoring purpose, but neither connected feature replaces inspection or correct draining.
What the complete purchase includes
Budget for electricity, any permitted drain accessories, a separate humidity monitor if useful, and the time needed to clean the specified washable filter and bucket. Verify the current Canadian package and service route. We have not measured energy use, sound or extraction, so a quiet-bedroom or low-running-cost promise would be unsupported.

Midea Cube 20 Pint
Consider it if: a suitable room-humidity job, safe bucket routine and supported placement justify a compressor appliance
Skip it if: you need to repair a moisture source, cannot manage the bucket or require a built-in pump
20-pint compressor dehumidifier with drain hose; no built-in water pump.

Nested storage and moving are different from running
The Cube’s nested arrangement is a storage feature. Follow the manual to switch between storage and operating positions, keeping the appropriate clearances while it runs. A compact packed shape does not mean it can operate inside a crowded cupboard. Before moving, empty and prepare it as instructed and observe the manufacturer’s transport and restart requirements.
- Record temperature and humidity before judging whether the task is suitable.
- Check bucket handling before relying on its maximum capacity.
- Inspect any drain connection and nearby floor regularly.
- Keep exact model and service details with the receipt.
- Reassess the room and drain route at the next address.
For the much smaller thermoelectric category, read the Cube versus mini-unit comparison before assuming a cheaper miniature device does the same job.
