A closer look for renters
ARZOPA A1 review: an HDMI screen for a pack-away rental desk
A second screen is useful only if it can disappear when the dining table becomes a dining table again. ARZOPA A1 has a plausible role in that routine, especially when the laptop has HDMI but its USB-C socket cannot send video. The cables and stand determine whether it actually fits.
We reviewed manufacturer documentation and Canadian product listings. We have not hands-on tested these products for this guide. Retailer links are ordinary links; we earn no commission from them.

The renter’s lens
Portability & ecosystem fit
- Pack, place & remove
- Measure kickstand depth and cable exits as well as screen size. Store the panel without bending or pressing on the screen.
- Ecosystem fit
- Connect to a supported laptop video output. HDMI needs a video cable and separate USB power; USB-C video needs a capable host and cable.
- Offline & shared use
- The ordinary wired display route does not depend on household Wi-Fi. Applications and content on the computer may have their own internet requirements.
- Complete ownership cost
- Count missing cables, suitable power, sleeve and any stable stand. No display subscription is required; check Canadian returns and support.
- At the next address
- Keep assigned cables together and rehearse the complete pack-away routine. There is no smart-home account migration or wall mount to undo.

Choose the connection before the screen
Write the exact laptop model and the display-capable socket you intend to use. USB-C shape alone does not identify video output. Look for documented DisplayPort Alt Mode or another supported display route in the laptop manual. If the computer only has a data-and-charge USB-C socket, buying an extra cable will not make it generate native video.
The A1’s mini-HDMI input creates a separate route: compatible HDMI video from the source, plus the monitor’s required USB power connection. Draw those two lines on paper and check that you have the right cable and supply. For a work laptop, confirm permission with IT before ordering; a portable monitor should not depend on bypassing device restrictions or installing unapproved software.
Translate the specifications into desk space
| Feature or limit | What it means at home |
|---|---|
| 15.6-inch Full HD, 60 Hz class | A basic second-screen format; not a promise of measured colour accuracy or gaming response. |
| Mini-HDMI input | Useful for a compatible HDMI source when paired with separate power. |
| USB-C video route | Needs a supported video-capable source and suitable cable. |
| Integrated kickstand | Measure the deployed depth and cable exits, not only the panel outline. |
| A1 model identification | A1S, A1M and older similarly named products can differ. |
The manufacturer’s current A1 page is the specification source. We have not measured brightness, sound, text quality or panel variation. Inspect the delivered model label and package rather than transferring a review of a similarly named ARZOPA monitor to this exact listing.
The ecosystem is the computer, not the Wi-Fi
An ordinary wired second screen does not need your rental’s Wi-Fi or a smart-home controller. That can make it easier to move than a display that depends on a shared network. Keep the monitor connection independent of the household’s cameras, lamps and voice accounts. The laptop still determines which applications, content and external-display modes are available.
A USB-C hub can complicate the plan. Many small hubs provide HDMI but no USB-C video output for a portable panel. If using one, map video, data and power separately. The hub’s charging socket is not another monitor socket. Our five-port hub comparison explains the distinction; buying both accessories without this map risks an avoidable second order.
Make a paper desk before making a purchase
Lay out a paper screen outline, the open laptop and the mouse area on the actual table. Add the space behind the kickstand, cable bends and any dishes or household objects that remain. Check whether a housemate can pass without catching a lead. A thin monitor does not guarantee a small working footprint when it is tilted and connected.
Consider sitting position and screen height. If a separate stand is needed for comfortable work, include its footprint and packing space too. Avoid unstable stacks and permanent wall fittings to rescue a temporary setup. The easiest return is the one prevented by measuring the complete arrangement, including where the screen is stored between sessions.
Calculate the full portable kit
Check the exact listing for included cables and protective accessories, then add only the missing supported parts. An HDMI cable may need a mini-HDMI end; an ordinary charge-only USB-C cable is not a video cable. Do not assume the display has an internal battery or can charge the laptop because the product photograph shows one connection.
Check seller identity, Canadian return conditions and the support route for this exact model. No subscription is required for the wired display function, but a suitable power supply, sleeve or stable stand can change the total. If portability would require carrying a large accessory pouch you will avoid using, an existing stationary monitor may be the better small-home arrangement.
Where the A1 belongs on a shortlist
This screen fits a specific need: a removable reference display for a compatible computer, particularly where mini HDMI avoids an unsupported USB-C video assumption. It is not an automatic recommendation for colour-critical production, high-refresh gaming or a computer that has already reached its supported external-display limit. A second panel cannot remove the host’s limitations.
A1, 15.6-inch Full HD with kickstand
ARZOPA A1 portable monitor
Consider it if: you need a removable HDMI-capable second screen and have planned its power, cables and stand space
Skip it if: you expect every USB-C port to output video or need unverified professional display performance
Confirm current A1 revision and cables; HDMI operation also requires USB power.

Test the daily setup, then the packing routine
- Use the exact supported connection you intend to keep.
- Check extended desktop, text scaling and representative work documents.
- Check wake, sleep and restart with the real charger and accessories connected.
- Fold and store the panel without pressure on its screen or ports.
- Keep video and power cables labelled so the next setup is straightforward.
A successful personal acceptance check is not a controlled product benchmark, but it answers the question that matters: can you set up and clear the desk without friction? If the stand, scaling or cable arrangement is wrong, return it while eligible rather than buying successive adapters to justify keeping it.
