Sensibo Air vs Cielo Breez Plus: buy new or keep the controller you own?
An infrared controller can add connected controls without replacing the mini-split in a rental. There is an important catch in this comparison: Cielo's official Breez Plus page is labelled Discontinued as checked October 22, 2026. This is therefore useful both for someone considering Air and an owner deciding whether to keep a working Plus. We have not tested either controller.
We compared current manufacturer documentation and relevant owner questions. We have not hands-on tested these products. US and Canadian models, offers and requirements are distinguished; ordinary retailer links earn us no commission.
New Apple setup
Investigate Sensibo Air
Air is HomeKit certified; exact AC/remote compatibility and required features still need checking.
Existing Plus owner
Do not replace a working controller automatically
Plus has documented onboard temperature, mode and fan controls; discontinuation does not itself prove your unit stopped working.
New Cielo purchase
Check the current range separately
Breez Max and Edge Pro are different products; their features must not be attributed to Breez Plus.
First check the unit and its remote
Photograph the mini-split's exact model and the remote's model number. Confirm that it uses infrared and ask the controller maker about any uncertain mode, fan or swing function. A familiar manufacturer logo is not an exact compatibility check. Keep the original remote working throughout setup.
These are infrared control paths, not rewired central-HVAC thermostats. Cielo documents both USB-adapter and wired power options, but the removable USB/table-stand route is the relevant starting point here. Do not open a rental's wiring or change the landlord's thermostat to make a controller fit. Obtain agreement for mounts and shared heating/cooling routines as needed; requirements differ by tenancy and location.
The documented differences that matter
| Question | Sensibo Air | Cielo Breez Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Current buying status | Listed by manufacturer | Official page labelled Discontinued |
| Apple route | Native HomeKit certification documented | Siri Shortcuts documented; do not equate with native Apple Home |
| Without a phone in hand | Retain original AC remote | On-device temperature, mode, fan and supported swing controls |
| Basic app charges | Subscription not required for basic use; optional paid plan | Cielo states Home app has no subscription fee |
| IR placement | Verify supported remote and usable signal path | Manual requires line of sight and attention to sensor location |
| Evidence limit | No measured comfort or savings result | No measured comfort or savings result |
A practical one-room complete kit
For Air, start with one compatible AC, its original remote, one Air, the correct included or separately required regional power supply/cable and permitted Wi-Fi. For Apple automations and away-from-home platform control, verify Apple's current home-hub requirements rather than assuming the phone alone provides every function.
For an existing Plus, inspect its supply and cable and use its table stand if that gives a clear IR path. Cielo lists a 5V USB adapter, USB cable and stand in the package. Separate room controllers may be needed for independent units; do not assume one transmitter can individually control two identical heads in the same sightline.
First-year cost = controllers + missing supplies/placement items + any platform hardware + only the optional plan you choose + taxes/shipping. We did not establish an in-stock, equivalent USD/CAD purchase pair. No converted “Canadian price,” payback period or energy-saving amount is asserted.
Compare useful free functions before paid extras
Sensibo's current plan page places mobile control, timers, schedules, Climate React, geofencing and basic graphs in its free Basic tier. It places additional features such as recurring Auto-Off, advanced statistics and Anti-Mold in the paid Energy Saver Plan. The support documentation confirms a subscription is not required for basic operation. Plan entitlements can change, so check the function you actually want before enrolling.
Cielo's current mini-split-controller FAQ says its Home app has no subscription fee. That is useful context for a Plus owner; it is not a promise of perpetual cloud support for discontinued hardware. Do not buy either product for a projected savings percentage. Heating/cooling costs depend on your equipment, tariff, weather and routine, and this comparison has no measured savings evidence.
When the app and the AC disagree
Owner questions about IR controllers often concern missing functions, physical buttons and subscription boundaries. Use them as a checklist rather than evidence that one product is more reliable. Send a simple supported command, observe the unit, then check the app state. A command displayed on a phone is not independent proof that the AC received it.
Cielo's Plus manual advises pointing the original remote toward Plus so it can receive the command too. Keep the controller out of direct sun or other heat sources that distort its room reading. A controller's room temperature and the mini-split's own internal reading are different measurements; a matching setpoint does not establish identical comfort control. If a command fails, check placement, the remote profile and exact supported function before adding automations.
Do not infer offline operation from HomeKit branding
Air's HomeKit certification establishes a documented integration route. It does not establish our verified behaviour during an internet or vendor-service outage. Keep the original remote and check the complete automation you intend to use. Sensibo's linked HomeKit help article is currently titled for Air PRO, so this comparison does not silently apply every detail of that article to Air.
Plus's documented on-device buttons offer a useful control path, but we have not performed an outage test of schedules, remote access or third-party integrations. Keep a manual fallback for everyone in the household. Neither controller should be treated as a guaranteed frost-protection service, pet-safety monitor or substitute for reporting a faulty heating system.
Moving, discontinued stock and the no-purchase option
A discontinued label is a reason to investigate support, not to discard working equipment. Before buying a remaining Plus listing, ask who provides the warranty, whether the seller is authorized, whether account setup is still supported and what return rights apply in your region. Newer Breez Max and Edge Pro models deserve their own exact-model review; they are not Plus under a new name.
When moving, remove shared account access as appropriate, pack supplies and stand, leave the landlord's original remote, and check the next unit's compatibility before reinstalling. If the existing remote's timer or the unit's built-in controls handle your routine, spend nothing. Connected control is useful when it removes a specific repeated problem, not merely because a mini-split can be connected.
Exact models & regional retailer links
Air, not Air PRO or Sky
Sensibo Air
Consider it if The exact AC/remote is supported and native Apple HomeKit solves your control requirement.
Skip it if The original timer/remote works or network and remote compatibility are unresolved.
Single Air; verify regional power accessories and any separate room sensor
Breez Plus; official page marked Discontinued
Cielo Breez Plus
Consider it if You already own a working supported Plus and use its local buttons.
Skip it if You are buying new without written support, warranty and return confirmation.
Discontinued Plus: this is an existing-owner comparison. No recommendation to buy remaining stock without support, warranty and return confirmation.

Portability & ecosystem fit
- Pack, place & remove
- Use removable powered placement with a suitable IR path; no rewiring proposed.
- Ecosystem fit
- Air's native HomeKit differs from Plus's documented Siri Shortcuts; check required controls.
- Offline & shared use
- Original remote remains the fallback; complete outage behaviour is untested.
- Complete ownership cost
- Compare free Basic functions, optional Sensibo plan and discontinued Plus support before buying.
- At the next address
- Remove old sharing, retain power accessories and check compatibility with the next AC.
