Ring Battery Doorbell Plus vs eufy E340: rental mounting and recording costs

This comparison names the original 1536p Ring Battery Doorbell Plus and eufy Video Doorbell E340 T8214. Ring’s US shop now marks that original Plus discontinued. It is a useful existing-owner or exact-clearance decision, not a reason to buy obsolete hardware blindly; the newer Battery Doorbell 2K Plus is a different product. We have not tested either doorbell.

We compared current manufacturer documentation and relevant owner questions. We have not hands-on tested these products. US and Canadian models, offers and requirements are distinguished; ordinary retailer links earn us no commission.

Working Ring already

Replacement may save no money

Calculate any remaining recording-plan spend against E340, a new permitted mount and useful chime. Existing hardware and access arrangements have value.

Local event history

E340 provides a different storage route

Its built-in8GB can store events without a required HomeBase. Storage-duration headlines depend heavily on event count and clip settings.

Pixel counts and a second lens do not establish better face identification or faster notifications. We have not run a comparable video, radio or battery test.

A battery does not make the installation permission-free

First resolve whether a camera may face the proposed entrance and shared approach. The view may include neighbours’ doors, a corridor or windows. Describe the intended sightline, audio choice, recording hours and removal method when seeking the necessary permission. Canadian and US building or tenancy rules differ; this article does not provide a universal legal approval.

Then check the exact mount and surface. Ring lists a No-Drill Mount for the original family and says it is most effective on smooth, even surfaces. Do not transfer that compatibility to newer 2K models. For E340, no third-party no-drill mount was physically verified here. A vendor’s “renter friendly” label does not prove fit, paint-safe removal or compatibility with a fire-rated door.

Local recording and subscription recording are different baskets

Ring explains that without a subscription you can use live viewing, but it does not save video history. If reviewing a missed delivery is the job, include a compatible recording plan rather than pricing live view as an equivalent solution.

E340 includes 8 GB on-device event storage and can operate without HomeBase; compatible HomeBase options are separate purchases. The manufacturer’s 90-day storage claim assumes 30 clips per day at 20 seconds each. It is not 90 days of continuous footage. Treat E340 as an event doorbell here; do not borrow continuous-recording claims from the E340 floodlight or newer doorbells. Read the exact E340 product FAQ.

Make sure someone can hear the bell

Phone notifications are not the same as an indoor chime. If a phone is charging, silenced or out with a roommate, decide how the household will hear a visitor. Inventory a usable speaker or existing chime before adding another box.

For E340, current documentation lists selected HomeBase models, MiniBase Chime T8023 and supported voice-assistant routes. The old T8020 Wi-Fi chime and T8740 / T8742 chimes are not interchangeable. Owner questions about “which eufy chime” show why the model number matters. Verify the current connection instructions for your HomeBase and doorbell firmware rather than buying a generic branded chime.

Charging and connectivity deserve an ordinary-day check

Plan how to reach the release and charging controls without an unsafe ladder position. If using a spare battery, count the correct model and storage space. Hardwiring is a separate approved electrical installation with exact supply requirements; do not assume a borrowed transformer or existing rental wiring is suitable.

Before committing to the mount, check the live view at the actual closed-door position and the intended home network. Try receiving a press and replaying an event on the phone that will be used. These are proposed buyer checks. We have not measured latency, missed events or winter battery duration. A local recording feature does not make internet-dependent remote alerts work during every outage.

Compare the first year and later years separately

Write two regional baskets: doorbell + permitted matching mount + necessary indoor chime + optional spare battery + first-year recording service + tax/delivery. Later years add only the services and consumables you actually keep. Do not mix CAD and USD or silently convert a US promotion into a Canadian price.

Current matched regional retail and plan prices were not verified, so there is no invented payback month. An existing Ring plan covering other equipment may change the marginal cost. Conversely, paying a plan for one retained doorbell can matter more than a discounted purchase headline. E340’s local route avoids a required recurring recording subscription, but a HomeBase bought unnecessarily can erase an expected initial saving.

Owner concerns, updates and moving out

Owner discussions raise E340 chime compatibility, event gaps and whether hardwiring unlocks continuous recording. We checked the manufacturer’s model-specific storage/chime descriptions rather than treating anecdotes as defect rates. Ring owner questions about mount fit underline the generation check. Update the app/device through supported processes and review security support for the exact model; this research is not a security certification.

Before moving, export only needed recordings, revoke shared access and remove account ownership through the supported process. Follow the mount’s removal method and restore agreed surfaces. A functioning conventional bell, delivery instruction or permitted package collection arrangement may solve the real problem without another camera.

Portability & ecosystem fit

Pack, place & remove
Both battery products need permitted attachment, reachable charging and an agreed shared-area view.
Ecosystem fit
Compare the actual chime and app ecosystem, not an assumed universal Matter/HomeKit camera route.
Offline & shared use
Local E340 event storage is distinct from remote alerts; no offline response guarantee is made.
Complete ownership cost
Ring saved history requires a compatible plan; E340 local events do not require HomeBase or a recording subscription.
At the next address
Export necessary events, remove sharing/ownership, follow mount removal instructions and reassess the next entrance.

Sources & how we compared

Manufacturer specifications establish supported features, not measured performance, reliability or savings. Our recommendation is an editorial judgment about the complete setup. Linked owner discussions are anecdotal and dated; current official instructions take precedence.

Sources checked 22 October 2026. Manufacturer claims are not measured results. Owner accounts raise questions, not defect rates. Exact product links and clearly labelled retailer searches are distinguished; no current stock or matched regional checkout total is implied. Report a correction.
