EcoFlow RIVER 3 vs Anker C300: backup power for rental Wi-Fi

A small battery power station can keep your own network equipment powered during an outage. It cannot keep the provider’s network running. Before choosing between EcoFlow RIVER 3 and Anker SOLIX C300, find out which equipment in your rental actually needs a backed-up outlet.

We reviewed manufacturer documentation and Canadian product listings. We have not hands-on tested these products for this guide. Retailer links are ordinary links; we earn no commission from them.

Portability & ecosystem fit

Pack, place & remove
Count the station, required cables and safe ventilated operating space. Verify the Canadian AC-output model; C300 DC and RIVER variants are different products.
Ecosystem fit
Backup power supports compatible equipment, not a smart-home platform by itself. Include modem, router and any fibre terminal; the provider’s upstream network may still fail.
Offline & shared use
Check the exact low-load and transfer arrangement with non-critical equipment. A published UPS transfer time does not guarantee your particular network hardware stays running.
Complete ownership cost
Plan charging, inspection and battery care. Size from the complete load and usable task, accounting for conversion overhead rather than treating cell capacity as delivered energy.
At the next address
Follow manufacturer and carrier battery rules. Recheck cables, ventilation and required load; never connect portable output to rental wiring.

Identify everything between the wall and your Wi-Fi

List the modem, separate router, fibre terminal and any other powered equipment needed for your connection. A powered router with an unpowered modem can still broadcast a Wi-Fi name while providing no internet. Ask the provider what backup arrangements and outage limitations apply to its equipment; do not assume a battery in your unit covers the building’s shared equipment.

Choose a realistic task, such as keeping a laptop connected long enough to finish a call. A phone hotspot may be a simpler fallback when reception and your data plan support it. For work that cannot tolerate an interruption, agree on a second connection or location rather than treating a consumer battery as an internet-availability guarantee.

The Canadian RIVER 3 page and C300 Canadian user guide are the specification sources. We have not measured transfer behaviour, usable energy, noise or charging time. Confirm the exact Canadian voltage, model and manual before ordering.

Build an energy budget before choosing the battery

W, or watts, describe power at a moment. Wh, or watt-hours, describe an energy quantity. As an invented planning example, suppose your measured modem and router together draw 23 W and you want four hours. The devices alone would use 23 × 4 = 92 Wh. That arithmetic excludes conversion losses, the station’s own consumption and a reserve; it is not a prediction for either product.

Measure the normal combined load using appropriate equipment if possible, and include every required device. An adapter’s maximum rating is not necessarily its usual consumption. Ask the manufacturer about low-load operation and shutoff settings. Dividing the box’s cell-energy figure by a small load can give an unrealistically optimistic runtime, especially when the inverter’s overhead becomes important.

Automatic transfer needs a real suitability check

A published transfer time is not a promise that your particular modem, computer or storage device will stay running. Follow the documented UPS configuration and verify behaviour with your own non-critical equipment at a suitable time. Keep important work saved and independent backups available. This guide does not recommend either station for medical equipment or other life-critical loads.

A conventional UPS may suit a fixed router shelf better if your priority is automatic changeover and a defined supported load. A portable station may make more sense if you also need to carry the battery to a desk during an outage. Compare those workflows and the ongoing battery-maintenance instructions, rather than assuming the portable option is always the upgrade.

Keep the setup freestanding and within its limits

  • Connect suitable individual devices using the station’s intended outlets and original compatible cables. Never feed a wall socket or connect it to the rental’s wiring.
  • Keep the unit dry, stable and ventilated, with the manufacturer’s required clearances and temperatures. Do not hide it under bedding or block a walkway.
  • Treat the rated continuous output separately from boost or surge advertising. A 600 W headline does not turn either model into a general 600 W supply for sensitive electronics.
  • Use a supported USB-C power arrangement only when the device and cable match. Do not substitute an improvised barrel adapter because the connector appears to fit.

You do not need a solar panel to recharge these AC-output stations from a suitable wall outlet. Do not buy a balcony solar bundle without checking actual sunlight, safe placement, building permission and exact electrical compatibility. That is a separate project from powering a modem.

A useful return-window checklist

On delivery, check the exact model, Canadian electrical label, supplied cables and seller’s return conditions. Configure the documented behaviour, including any low-load shutoff, and try the complete intended modem/router setup. Record the conditions and how long it serves your personal task without presenting that informal check as a controlled product comparison.

Keep a charging and inspection reminder with your outage plan. Store the manual, purchase record and serial number privately; review the manufacturer’s current support and recall information for the exact unit. If moving or shipping the battery, follow the carrier’s battery rules rather than packing it as an ordinary accessory. A backup plan is useful only when the charged equipment, cables and people who know the procedure are all available.

Our recommendations are conditional judgments about system fit, required components and renter constraints. Manufacturer features are not independent performance measurements. Check current instructions for the exact regional hardware.
