SwitchBot Curtain 3: will it fit your existing rental rod?
You can like the idea of scheduled curtains and still have the wrong rod for the motor. The useful first step is a fit check on the hardware already in the rental, followed by a complete one-window basket.
We reviewed manufacturer documentation and Canadian product listings. We have not hands-on tested these products for this guide. Retailer links are ordinary links; we earn no commission from them.

The renter’s lens
Portability & ecosystem fit
- Pack, place & remove
- A clip-on motor can move with you, but the next rod may require a different version or accessories.
- Ecosystem fit
- Bluetooth control and supported local functions differ from remote access and Matter bridging through a compatible SwitchBot hub.
- Offline & shared use
- Keep the original curtains usable and learn the exact model’s manual-operation instructions before relying on schedules.
- Complete ownership cost
- Count motors per opening, optional solar panels, suitable charging equipment and any connected-platform hub.
- At the next address
- Remove motors and accessories using the manual, retain fittings and repeat rod compatibility and calibration at the next address.
Documentation-based fit assessment, not a hands-on test or compatibility certification.
Make a one-window fit record
Photograph the rod and curtain heading for your own reference. Record whether the track is a round rod or a U rail, its dimensions, the curtain heading and the direction each panel moves. Check how much room remains around brackets and rod ends. A product image of a similar window is not a compatibility check.
Curtain 3 comes in different track variants, and Curtain Rod 3 (2025) is not a licence to reuse every older accessory or installation tutorial. Follow the instructions for the exact motor selected. The linked offer is the 2025 rod version; it is not a universal rail motor.
The kit follows the opening
| Window detail | Why it changes the purchase |
|---|---|
| Rod or rail | Choose the matching motor version and dimensions |
| Grommet or other curtain heading | Use its specific installation method and any required spacing accessories |
| Telescoping join | Check the diameter change and connector instructions |
| Panels opening to opposite sides | Count the motors required for both sides |
| Remote or ecosystem control | Include a supported hub and platform controller where required |
Grommets and telescoping joins deserve attention
With grommet curtains, look at how the rings gather and travel. SwitchBot provides a dedicated method and compatibility guidance; do not assume the motor can simply push every tightly stacked panel. Read whether a spacing kit or other supplied part is required for the chosen generation.
Measure all sections of an extendable rod, including the narrower section. A rod’s nominal diameter can hide a step that affects travel. Use the manufacturer’s drawings rather than borrowing a dimension from another Curtain version. Heavy drag, damaged hardware or a loose rental bracket should be addressed before considering automation.
Separate the motor from the connected system
Begin with the control you need: local phone control, a physical remote, schedules or remote access. The motor’s Bluetooth connection is different from a Wi-Fi bridge. Matter integration requires the supported bridge and the chosen platform’s controller; the motor alone should not be described as a direct Wi-Fi or Thread accessory.
Solar charging is optional equipment whose usefulness depends on the actual window and panel position. Do not promise indefinite operation in a shaded Canadian room. Include access for ordinary charging and keep any cable from the moving curtain path.

SwitchBot Curtain Rod 3 (2025)
Consider it if: your rod, curtain heading and required motor count match the 2025 rod compatibility instructions
Skip it if: you have an incompatible rail, unresolved drag or no safe way to charge and service the motor
Check single versus double-side package; hub and solar accessories are separate unless expressly included.

A practical acceptance check for one opening
Start with one compatible opening. Check full travel and stopping positions using the official calibration procedure, then test the controls used by every household member. Learn what happens when the network is unavailable and how manual operation works for this exact model. We have not measured noise, pull force or battery life.
Keep removable parts and the original curtain hardware together. Before moving, follow the removal instructions, record the motor version and reset or transfer account access if ownership changes. Compare the entire two-sided window cost with simply continuing to draw the curtains by hand.
