Dyson V8 Plus vs Shark Rocket Pet Pro: a small-apartment choice

A cordless vacuum is convenient only if it has a safe charging spot and enough useful runtime with the head you actually use. Compare the original Dyson V8 Plus and Canadian Shark Rocket Pet Pro IZ162HC around your rooms and storage, rather than the biggest number on the box.

We reviewed manufacturer documentation and Canadian product listings. We have not hands-on tested these products for this guide. Retailer links are ordinary links; we earn no commission from them.

Portability & ecosystem fit

Pack, place & remove
Solve dry storage and charging before choosing a dock. Dyson documents charging without its wall bracket; verify the supported arrangement for the exact Shark kit.
Ecosystem fit
These are manually operated cordless vacuums, not mapped cleaning robots. Ordinary cleaning does not require a home controller or landlord Wi-Fi.
Offline & shared use
A charged battery supports the ordinary cleaning task without an app. Compare usable mode-and-tool runtime rather than expecting the maximum headline with every floor head.
Complete ownership cost
Price exact filters, battery replacements and missing tools. Check the original V8 generation and Canadian IZ162HC rather than borrowing another family’s parts claims.
At the next address
Keep chargers labelled, protect batteries under manufacturer/carrier instructions and recheck safe charging space at the next address.

Write down three actual cleaning jobs

Start with your main floor surface, a tight spot such as the sofa edge, and any upholstery or pet-bed task. Check that the supplied floor head is appropriate for the finish and rug instructions. A powerful motor does not tell you whether the head is suitable for your delicate flooring or easy to turn in a narrow kitchen.

These are dry-cleaning appliances. Keep liquid spills and other prohibited materials out of the job list. If you mainly need a quick kitchen sweep, a simpler tool may be easier to store. We have not tested either vacuum’s suction, hair pickup, comfort or noise; this comparison uses product documentation and practical purchase checks.

Read the exact V8 Plus listing alongside Shark Canada’s IZ162HC page. A cheaper bundle without the upholstery tool you need is a different total purchase.

Turn maximum runtime into a useful question

Ask how long your usual clean takes and whether you normally need the stronger setting. An up-to figure is not a guarantee with a powered floor head. Shark explicitly bases its advertised 40 minutes on handheld Standard mode; its product information distinguishes handheld, bare-floor, carpet and Boost use.

Dyson also qualifies the original V8 Plus runtime by mode and attachment. Do not transfer the newer V8 Cyclone’s battery or runtime specifications to this older V8 Plus. If uninterrupted whole-home cleaning is essential, investigate a suitable corded option instead of budgeting immediately for extra batteries.

Solve storage before drilling a dock into the wall

Locate a dry charging position with the clearances and ventilation required by the manual. Ask whether the exact charger can be used without a wall-mounted bracket. Dyson’s Canadian documentation describes charging with or without the docking station. If you want to mount a bracket, obtain the necessary permission and use appropriate fixings rather than assuming adhesive is safe for the weight.

Try the manufacturer’s supported storage arrangement and keep loose attachments together. Do not leave a top-heavy vacuum balanced where a pet or housemate can knock it down. A cupboard that closes neatly around the appliance is not automatically an appropriate place to charge it. Take measurements of the complete assembled unit and any supported broken-down storage configuration.

Price the maintenance you will actually do

Find the Canadian price and availability of the exact replacement filters and battery before buying. Follow the model’s washing and drying instructions; a damp filter should not be reinstalled because you want to finish cleaning sooner. “Self-cleaning” and “de-tangling” describe features, not a maintenance exemption.

Battery replacement arrangements differ across families. Shark’s IZ162HC page describes a removable battery, but also includes generic FAQ text about other IX/IZ140 models. Confirm the exact IZ162HC manual and replacement part rather than applying that generic answer to every Rocket. For Dyson, verify the original V8 battery instructions and do not assume a modern click-in pack. Avoid unsupported battery adapters as a buying shortcut.

A practical keep-or-return check

  • Confirm Canadian charger, exact model and complete included tools on delivery.
  • Use the appropriate head and mode on your real surfaces within the seller’s return conditions.
  • Check comfort at the handle and whether you can empty the bin without awkward lifting.
  • Time your normal clean without treating it as a controlled battery-performance test.
  • Find the correct maintenance instructions and replacement-part numbers.

A repair or correct replacement filter for an existing machine may be the better purchase. When moving, keep the charger labelled and protect the battery according to the manufacturer and carrier instructions; see our portable-equipment moving checklist.
